Alright so I mostly do reviews, but I am trying to branch out and bring some new content to all of you boils and ghouls! The first topic I want to bring to your attention is about Horror on TV.
Horror on TV isn’t anything new, though for a few years there was a severe lack of Horror on our TV! The first show I ever started watching with my Dad was Tales From the Crypt and Freddy’s Nightmares, mind you I was only one when the show first came out, but that slowly evolved into X-Files, Outer Limits, Tales from the Darkside, Monsters, Friday the 13th, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and whatever else was on.
All of those shows sadly came to an end and for quite a while there just simply wasn’t anything on TV to satisfy that urge for Horror, sure we got some mini series like Rose Red, Kingdom Hospital, Fear Itself, and Nightmares & Dreamscapes but that was all! In the last 10 years we have gotten a lot of different Horror shows that lasted pretty damn long! True Blood, Dexter, Masters of Horror, Harper’s Island, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, Holliston, Being Human.
Very Recently Horror has just absolutely been taking the airwaves by storm! The Walking Dead and American Horror Story both opened up a lot of doors for Horror to really shine! Have you noticed that the only new shows that have been renewed in the last two years have been Horror? Last year alone we not only got Bates Motel but also Hannibal, Sleepy Hollow, and Dracula all of which were renewed for a second season almost immediately.
This year we have the last season of True Blood and a new show called Penny Dreadful, which looks amazing! Not only that but we have Guillermo Del Toro’s The Strain, Syfy’s new show Helix and probably a lot of other things that haven’t been announced yet! I am so happy that Horror is making a comeback and that more and more shows are attracting many different people to the Horror genre. Sadly MTV has the rights to make a Scream TV show, which I don’t believe would work as a TV show! Though I do have to admit that Teen Wolf is really good and well made.
Some shows that are not technically Horror but do share in the elements that might actually help attract more people to the genre include Grimm, The Vampire Diaries, and the millions of Paranormal shows that Syfy has. The real point of this article is just to simply state that it truly is a great time to be a Horror fan! I hope the trend of Horror on TV continues and maybe we will get some actual news on the rumored Hellraiser TV show!
Thank you for reading Boils and Ghouls! I appreciate each and every one of you and hope that you continue to check out all of my content! Let me know in the comments below what your favorite Horror TV show is!
