Mama is the latest presented by Guillermo Del Toro( The Orphanage, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark), it stars Jessica Chastain( Zero Dark Thirty, Lawless), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau(Game of Thrones, Headhunters), Megan Charpentier(Resident Evil: Retribution, Red Riding Hood), and Isabelle Nélisse(Mirador, Whitewash).Annabel and Lucas are faced with the challenge of raising his young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years…. but how alone were they?
Mama was originally a short film by Andrés Muschietti, Guillermo Del Toro liked it enough to back it and have it made as a feature length film. The short is rather creepy even though it is less than 3 minutes long, the film takes this short and does a pretty good job of stretching it into a full length film. Here’s the short:

Not only does the movie tell a ghost story but it also has the creepy kids and has a few underlying stories within. Isabelle Nélisse was one of the creepiest kids I have ever seen in a film and does a fantastic job being as this is only her third project. The film also does a great job of showing how Jessica Chastain’s character goes from someone simply thrust into responsibility to becoming a mother to these two girls; Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is fantastic as well and plays twin brothers with drastically different personalities and ends up showing a wide range of emotions.
The movie was full of jumpy scares and all around creepiness but not really anything that will actually stick with you long after viewing; the big reveal was a bit anticlimactic and once we get a full view of “Mama” she becomes less scary. One of the biggest things that annoyed me in the film and probably went unnoticed by other views is the fact no matter what time of day it’s supposed to be in the film the windows in the house always make it looks like it’s daytime, even when it’s supposed to be the middle of the night, i simply can’t believe no one noticed this discrepancy during editing.
All in all the film was pretty good and everyone involved did a fantastic job, the sound effects were simply amazing and the CGI was good up until a point. The ending wasn’t what I expected and kind of put a damper on the finished product, I do recommend you see this film since it was genuinely creepy and had plenty of jumpy moments.Check us out on Facebook and Twitter.
I give Mama a 3 out of 5. Like us on Facebook.

Great review. I thought it was a cool movie. The younger girl was really creepy
Yeah she pulled off the creepy kid angle very nicely.
